Directive 98/79/EC Definition of An In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Device Means any medical device which is a reagent, reagent product, calibrator, control material, kit, instrument, apparatus, equipment, or system Whether used alone or in combination, intended by the manufacturer to be used in vitro for the examination of specimens, including blood and tissue solely or principally for the purpose of providing information : concerning a physiological or pathological state, or concerning a congenital abnormality, or to determine the safety and compatibility with potential recipients, or to monitor therapeutic measures.

  21. Figure 1 shows an outside view of an immunoassay device based on this technology (about full size). In use, sample is added to the SAMPLE position by simply inserting a 20µl capillary pipette into the hole in the housing.  Indicator  T1 changes blue when all the sample has been absorbed. The developer solution is then added at the DEVELOPER position using a preloaded 40µl micro pipette.  Indicator T2 changes green when it is time to read the result. The length of the red RESULT line relates to the amount of analyte in the sample.
