  1. Listen and obey Three in one  Repent!  Be baptized!  Receive the Holy Spirit Because you say so: Luke 5.1-11 Scene One – Hearing IS important. Everything begins with hearing the Word. Hearing is not enough but it IS necessary! Scene Two Following Jesus: Lesson Five

  2. Scene Three – Jesus’ unreasonable command! Will Peter obey?  because you say so! Scene Four – The miracle! Scene Five – Peter’s reaction; his repentance; Jesus’ prediction that he will bring many people to faith; His call to us, too.  men! Following Jesus: Lesson Five

  3. Listening to God’s Word is important / unimportant • Listening to God’s Word is enough / not enough • Obey Jesus only when what He says makes sense. Yes / No • Obey Jesus, even when it doesn’t make sense, and He will bless you. Yes / No • If we follow Jesus, He will use us to help others be saved too! Yes / Yes Following Jesus: Lesson Five

  4. The scene changes  commanded them Read together what Jesus says in John 14.15, 21 and 23. His love for us > our love for Him > we obey > we are blessed How do we hear His voice?  It is the voice of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit Following Jesus: Lesson Five

  5. If you obey that voice, it becomes stronger and clearer. If you ignore it, it fades away. As you soak yourself in the Word of God and in prayer and praise, and as you speak in tongues as much as possible, you become more and more sensitive to Jesus speaking to you by His Spirit. Following Jesus: Lesson Five

Many times we hear His voice 1) As we read the Bible 2) As we pray 3) As we listen to preaching or through a song 4) Through the advice of a friend 5) As we lie awake at night and all else is quiet! 6) And more! Anywhere, anytime! If you keep your heart open, He can speak to you!  That is what this Christian life is all about – a real life relationship, friendship Following Jesus: Lesson Five

Learning to pray Our Father, who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread Let’s pray also that we will hear His voice more and more clearly this week. Memory verse If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. (John 14.23) Following Jesus: Lesson Five
