  4. Effort • Be on time • Follow the chain of command • Work hard

  5. OR • Know your patients • Know the case • Know the anatomy

  6. Floor • Know your patients • Always have rounds reports • Be able to present your patients: succinctly! • Try to anticipate the needs of the team • D/C orders • Transfer orders

  7. Study Time • Use effectively • Study for the oral or written shelf • Helpful textbooks • Lawrence – Essentials of General Surgery • Case Files • Surgical Recall

  8. Things To Carry With You • Tape • Gauze • Order sheets • Blank Progress Notes • Scissors • Something to study

  9. How to be a GREAT medical student! • Good attitude/enthusiasm (without being annoying) • Committed to your patients • Can anticipate – both in the OR and out • Always busy doing something, but always available to the team
