  1. APS ETHOS Basic Techniques for S3 Design and Manufacture

  2. How to use the Ethos Software Open the Ethos software on your desktop. Select the new command. Double click on Laser effects.

  3. How to use the Ethos Software Using the shape commands at the left hand side of the page draw a Rectangle.

  4. How to use the Ethos Software Highlight your chosen shape. Go to Edit, Rescale

  5. How to use the Ethos Software Insert your chosen sizes Hints: The plastic is 100 x 150 x 4 This is for all 4 magnets 2 magnets will be laser cut

  6. How to draw the design: Option 1 Use the drawing tools to create the design Hint: Red = cut Green = engrave

  7. How to draw the design: Option 2 Find an image on the internet Hint: Search for: Biscuit Vectors Biscuit Stencils Biscuit Templates Biscuit Outlines

  8. Pasting the Image • Copy and Paste the image into APS Ethos • (Edit then paste to end or insert)

  9. Tracing the Image • Right Click • Select Vector Trace, Vector Trace…

  10. Tracing the Image Click on the edge of the image. Try it a few times Some images will just not work!

  11. Select points to delete (if necessary) • Select the middle arrow • Click on the point • Use the delete key

  12. Assign a cut • Click on the first arrow • Click on the shape • Pull down the menu • Pick red or green

  13. Engraving a texture • Select the shape • Right click • Select Properties

  14. Engraving a texture • Tick Enable Engraving • Change Grey Levels to 16 • Click apply • Click OK

  15. Engraving a texture • The image should go grey
