  1. The protection of Human Rights 70 years later • Οn the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the campaign was intended to underline the importance of protecting human rights and to highlight the challenges of effective protection and respect for human rights • The campaign was aimed at the general public • The communication team of our Office was responsible for the planning and implementation of the campaign • Time frame 5-21/12/2018

Main actions of the campaign • Inaugural conference with the title of the campaign “The Protection of Human Rights 70 years later”. • Short video with statements, of popular/recognized people in Cyprus, on human rights values and principles • Informative eventsto public places • Promotion of the campaign through social media and mass (mainstream) media

Inaugural conference -“The Protection of Human Rights 70 years later” • Speakers of the conference were : Cyprus Ombudsman’s, Mrs. Maria Stylianou Lottides, Mr. Andreas Loverdos, a Member of the Hellenic Parliament and Associate Professor of Constitutional Law at Panteion University in Athens, Mr. NicosCharalambous, the first Cyprus Ombudsman, Mr. Andreas Dimitropoulos, a Law Professor at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, the UNHCR Representative in Cyprus, Mrs KatjaSahaSavarimuthu and Mr. AchilleasDimitriades, lawyer and President of the Human Rights Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association • The conference was attended by representatives of political parties and NGOs, public figures, public officials and individuals

Informative events to public places • 6 other events were organised in all cities all around Cyprus, during which promotional material was given, the video of the campaign was shown and a quiz was administrated • Promotional and informative material- a small bag which included a translated version of the UNHR in greek, the leaflet of our Office competences, the Statement of the Commissioner on the occasion of the 70 years since the adoption of the Declaration, and a silicon wristband with the motto of the campaign #standup4humanrights and the logo of our Office. • 2500 handbags were given during the events, while the presence of public figures in events such as MP’s was very important

Video spot • Our Office (in cooperation with professional team) has created a short video, which includes, amongst others, statements, of popular/recognized people in Cyprus, on human rights values and principles. • Video was broadcasted and distributed on the social media and on tv, either in its entirety or in pieces, since all short statements have been produced to form individual spots, as well. • Cyprus Radiotelevision Authority gave additional advertising time to tv channels as a motivation to show the video, something that has achieved the purpose of causing the video to be displayed on all tv channels for several days

  6. Metrics • Twitter – 24.9k impressions.- and 875 profile visits (av. mon. 155) • Facebook – 26500 posts reach • 2500 bags with promotional material given to public • Video broadcasted to all tv channels for several days • Video re-sharing abroad from other organisations

  7. Challenges • Limited time for panning and executing the campaign • Limited budget • Low engagement rate
