  1. Tips on preparing for TOEFL Listening exam Listening exams are probably the most daunting of examinations in the TOEFL examination system. They are all-encompassing and they test more than just listening skills. The TOEFL iBT exam tests are a little more than just listening but also tests one’s ability to listen, concentrate and multi-task when studying English. Students will be made to read their questions whilst listening to the exam and to also write their answers in the same language test. The test, however, is more immersive than the rest hence it can be more exciting if thoroughly prepared for. Here are some tips on how to prepare for a TOEFL listening test:- •Expose yourself to a lot of spoken English :- The best way to prepare for such a test is to acquaint yourself with the language in either a formal or technical setting. This can only be done by listening to as much English as you can so that you develop receptive skills towards the language. This can be done by listening to audios where English is spoken, the radio, or the television. Listening to songs can also help you in preparation for a listening test. •Get hold of the previous past test to know the structure of the exam :- To prepare for the TOEFL Listening exam, you should practice with past exam papers so that you know the structure and pattern of the exam. This also gives you an advantage to not panic if you have tested yourself with previous tests. If you understand the pattern, you will likely be more composed and that can help you to manage your time more effectively than could have been the case if you did not. •Don’t get distracted :- It is always important to maintain your concentration on your listening examination. You should concentrate so that no information can elude you whilst you are listening. You should also take note that the recordings can be of a place where there is background noise in which concentration is needed to get the particular information you need. •Enrich your vocabulary :- It might seem as if reading has no relationship with listening but, in actual essence, it does! If you acquaint yourself with a lot of new words, you can increase your chances of passing the examination. The more word you know, the more you are likely to recognise them when they are spoken. You can only do this if you continuously improve your vocabulary by reading new words constantly •Practice :- The goal is not only to pass or know the language but to know it and speak it well. This can only be achieved by practising, the more you practise English, the more you understand it and you will not need to put as much effort into the exam if you understand the language. Practice English through surrounding yourself with people who either know the language or are also learning so that you can converse in the language. Remember to stay calm and collected in the exam to avoid panic-blankness. Good luck!
