  1. Know What Your Car Drinks And Feed It That Only! Just like taking the wrong diet can be harmful to our body, using the wrong fuel in the vehicle can be dangerous for its health, longevity and smooth functioning. However if you have already done it, let’s find out the medicine to fix this blunder. First of all, you need to know why it is such a big mistake and why you should avoid it in future. If we think of it, diesel lubricates the engine so that everything can work smoothly. If you add petrol here, the moving parts of your car may not get what they need from the fuel. This way you are risking the engine block seizing up which can be heavy on your pocket if the engine had to be replaced. STAY THERE!

  2. By God’s grace if you have realised that you are putting in the wrong fuel in your car, DO NOT START IT. If you are not that lucky, your car may take the key being put in the ignition as a signal to prime the engine and get ready to drive. Also, in case of wrong fueling petrol can end up going through the diesel engine even if you’re just sitting there. Cars with keyless entry or push-button start features can make opening the doors a signal to prime the engine. Whenever you find yourself stuck in a situation like this, immediately call roadside assistance. STOP! STOP! STOP! Slow down and move to the side of the road immediately as soon as you realise something’s fishy with the car. But how do you know it? Some of the common signs to indicate that you have put the wrong fuel in the car can be - it will be hard to start, will give you a rough running, will have a smoky engine or exhaustion and in the worst-case scenario, there will be a sudden or complete loss of power. If you catch hold of any of these signals, don't think much and pull over. Put on your hazard lights and call up your roadside assistance or a mechanic as early as possible. Now that you know the trouble, what to do in order to fix it? To start with, the fuel tank of your car will be drained off completely. The fuel pump, injector, fuel rail and other parts may have to be replaced depending on their condition. The more fuel goes into the engine, the heavier expense you will incur in terms of parts replacement. There are certain claims that a small amount of petrol in a diesel engine can be fixed suggesting that an engine can tolerate up to 10% contamination. This could be true for older diesel which was adapted from trucks and machinery but the new diesel engines are more refined for their efficiency and environmental reasons. This has reduced their tolerance to other fuels, so a big NO! NO to fuel mixing! Here are the examples - Common-rail Diesel (CRD) and Gasoline-direct Injection (GDI) diesel are highly susceptible to huge damage if a drop of petrol goes into their tank.

  3. If you are smart and quick enough to catch the mistake, immediately drain the fuel tank and refill. This will save you from having any bad or expensive experience. Some of the car parts can be saved from immediate replacement. Will this damage be covered? It is difficult to say ‘Yes’ here! Car manufacturers do not cover the costs of you putting the wrong fuel in your car. All you can expect from your manufacturer warranty is to provide you with a tow truck that can help you reach the nearest service centre. If you are not sure whether your manufacturer will help you out in this case of misfuelling, find out about all the warranties and roadside assistance when buying the car. You never know what other things they can offer you apart from a tow truck in such a situation If you have put the wrong fuel, try to find it out quickly and strictly follow their guidance before any major damage happens. If you are not able to do it on your own, take your car to the expert technicians to see if there’s any long-lasting damage and tell you what to do from here. Don’t try and be an expert and do not delay if you witness any wrong signs. This will lead to more damage or complete damage to your car which you certainly would not want to happen to you. Taking care of cars can be expensive but you have to be aware and smart enough to take good care of your car. Do not always go by the book. There could be many situations where common sense can help but there can be some when only technicians should work on the car. Doing experiments unnecessary on the car and thinking “you know it all” can cost you heavily. You may have to say bye-bye to your car forever.
