  1. Borneo is the third largest island in the world. It includes three countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. Borneo is primarily mountainous, with dense areas of rain forest. The equator runs down the middle of Borneo. It is hot and humid.

DDT • dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane • Used as an insecticide • used with great success in the second half of World War II to control malaria and typhus • In 1962, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson catalogued the environmental impacts of DDT in the US. The book suggested that DDT and other pesticides may cause cancer and that their agricultural use was a threat to wildlife, particularly birds. Its publication was one of the signature events in the birth of the environmental movement, and resulted in a large public outcry that eventually led to DDT being banned in the US in 1972

  3. Malaria Malaria is a parasite that gets into the blood from the bite of an infected female mosquito. Symptoms are: Fever. Chills. Headache Sweats, Fatigue Nausea and vomiting Death Malaria is treatable with medication

Plague • The Plague is a deadly infectious disease that is spread by fleas. • It is difficult and expensive to treat. • Has killed millions of people throughout history • Symptoms include: • Chills • Fever • Severe headache • Rapid heart rate • Nausea • Vomiting • Painful swollen lymph glands • Delirium • Death.
