  1. KCNQ2Help Pass “H.RES.298 Raise Awareness For Epilepsy” By: Nick Schneider Mason Moorhouse Nehemiah Heckler

  2. What is KCNQ2? • KCNQ2 is a gene involved in the proper functioning of a potassium channel in the brain. This has been associated with seizures. • KCNQ2 has been related to BNFC (Bengin Familial Neonatal Convulsions). Where babies begin to have seizures right after birth, but stop within 7 months, and runs in the family. • This makes it very closely related to epilepsy.

  3. 17 hours after birth, Jack started having seizures in NICU • Multiple tests were done with no real solution • So Jack’s army was created! Jack Pribaz

  4. Jack’s army is trying to raise awareness and money for a problem with no answer. • A new foundation formed by a family with a personal connection. • A well known social studies teacher and coach at Wheaton North High school, Mr. Pribaz.

  5. Jack’s Army at the Wheaton North Girl’s Basketball Game

  6. And for what? • A family that wants their son and brother to be able to get help • A father that wants to raise money for his son’s cause • And a teacher that wants the word to get out • And students willing to help

  7. Our Goal • Get the H.RES. 298 bill passed • A bill to get funding for epilepsy • We will hope to add a write on for the funding of KCNQ2

  8. Progress • There is no cure. • Mostly because there is no funding for research! • Children and families in Jack’s situation are receiving no help. • Wheaton North High school is working hard to help the Pribaz family in hopes that someday, Jack will be cured.
