  2. Stokes’ Law The relationship between the drag force and speed for a small sphere moving through a viscous fluid.

  3. Poiseuille,s Law For a fluid in laminar flow through a tube or pipe, the relationship between volume flow rate, pipe radius, pressure drop, and length of pipe.

  4. Resistance in a pipe occurs because outer layers of fluid are held back by a friction-like force as they slide by the wall of the pipe or duct. Resistance occurs also because fluid layers within the fluid itself face a drag-like force opposition as they slide pasr one another.

  5. Fluid resistance in a pipe or duct affects both: • (1) Flow rate • (2) Pressure drop along the pipe.

  6. Laminar Flow: The fluid moves in layers with the center of the pipe moving fastest. • Turbulent Flow. The fluid swirls and mixes layers within the pipe.
