STRATEGY: Monitor Comprehension You can monitor comprehension as you read. • regularly stop to check that you understand what you have read. • stop when you do not understand something. • If you are confused, you stop, reread, read ahead, visualize, summarize, change the speed you are reading, or ask for help.

  5. Skill: Draw Conclusions You often use 2 or more pieces of information from the text and your own experiences to understand what your are reading in a nonfiction article. This is called drawing conclusions.

  6. PREVIEW & PREDICT When I say “Go”, take 1 minute to preview the illustrations. Skim text when previewing Ask questions before reading Use section headers to make predictions Ask yourself… • What do you think you will learn about butterflies? On your index card, write your predictions. After we listen to the selection, we will see if your questions were answered.
