MELAKA • Early 15th Century Melaka was founded by Parameswara – a Hindu prince from Palembang • The Indian Traders were a dominant group among others. • Many became close to the palace and became involved in palace affairs. • Indians were referred to as ‘Kelings’ – and a ‘Keling Village’ emerged for the traders and their helpers.
