  1. Ferrofluids are colloidal suspensions of monodomain magnetic particles in a liquid. These are being attached to extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffolds, which have a potential to promote “constructive remodeling” as opposed to scar tissue in a variety of body systems. Three functions of combining these two materials are: (1) To improve an in vivo tracking using GMR sensors by attaching magnetic nanoparticles to the scaffolds via site specific antibodies, (2) Dispersing FeCo into an ECM gel where an applied magnetic field is used to stretch the gel and simulate a mechanical environment that will aid in the remodeling of the scaffold into site specific tissue, and (3) Warming of local tissue by the heating of FeCo with a radiofrequency (RF) coil. Coupling the magnetic dipole moments of FeCo with the functionality of ECM scaffolds in remodeling the healing in vivo is a promising prospect in the future of research and medicine.
