  2. Agenda/Topics To Be Covered Objective: The students will describe the development of the alliance system by explaining the growth of alliances Hand-In: Exit Ticket from Yesterday. Drill: 1. How did the 2nd Industrial Revolution impact Europe? 2. Define legislature.

  3. The National State and Democracy Ch. 13 Section 3 pgs. 432-437 Western Europe and Political Democracy 1. Universal male suffrage laws passed 2. Prime minister responsible to legislative body 3. Mass political parties formed Great Britain Utilize a parliamentary democracy The majority party forms the government Leader is the Prime Minister France 3rd republic A president and 2 house legislature Italy Corrupt and weak in 1870’s

  4. Central and Eastern Europe: the Old Order Germany 2-House Legislature Chancellor (prime minister) Emperor controlled army, foreign policy, and bureaucracy Austro-Hungarian Empire Set up parliamentary system, but the emperor was REALLY in control-Francis Joseph

Russia Under Czar Nicholas I, Russia became industrialized and working conditions decreased Socialist groups formed Government killed 100s as they presented the Czar with a petition-”Bloody Sunday” The Czar formed the Duma-legislative body. United States After the American Civil War, the U.S. passed the 13th, 14th & 15th amendment

  7. International Rivalries Otto Van Bismarck initiates an alliance with Austria-Hungary in 1879 and Italy joins in 1882-Tripla Alliance This is against France Bismarck aligned with Russia and wanted to stay friends with Great Britain By 1907-Britain, France, & Russia initiated the Triple Entente

  8. Independent Work Create a Flow Chart that depicts that development of the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. Be sure to include the countries/empires within each alliance.

  9. Exit Ticket Read pages 437 (Crises in the Balkans) and complete the Reading Check questions on pages 437

  10. Homework Read Chapter 13 Section 3 pages 432-437
