  3. Important Events • Fight in Korea ends- A great war of communist ends in relief. • Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norkay reach top of Mt. Everest-A goal never reached was reached in 1953. • Rosa Parks refuses to give up her bus seat- led to civil rights for black people

  4. Discoveries and Innovations • Car seat belts in 1952- Made cars safer. • Type one diabetes- Helped define between type one and two so you can treat people better. • Rapid climate change- Protects endangered species

  5. Entertainment & Fashion • Afro hair – big African-American hair • Elvis Presley – popular rock star in the 1950s • Zoot Suit – introduced in 1950s
