Multiplying by 10

When you multiply a number by 10 you add a 0 to the end of the number. The number becomes 10 times bigger.

Example    263 x 10 = 2630

You can see that a zero is added to the end of the number. Units move to left, and a zero is added to the ones place like this:

When you multiply a number by 100 you add two 0s to the end of the number. The number becomes 100 times bigger.

When you multiply a number by 1,000 you add two 0’s to the end of the number. The number becomes 1,000 times bigger.
