  2. Dear Friends of Tree Campus USA, Enclosed you will find the 2008 Summary Report for the Tree Campus USA Program, including national and state data, for your review.  Twenty nine colleges and universities sought for and were recognized as the first Tree Campus USA “Class of 2008.” College and university students, administrators, and staff around the country are realizing that protecting and maintaining their campus trees is an important priority. Engaging the campus community in environmental stewardship is one way we are working to foster the next generation of tree stewards.  The Tree Campus USA program exists due to the support of Toyota Motor North America and the Arbor Day Foundation, along with the collaboration of state Urban and Community Forestry coordinators and other cooperators. This partnership continues to support local, state, regional and national efforts to grow and strengthen the urban elements of our nation’s forests.  The Arbor Day Foundation appreciates this unique relationship and we look forward to expanding the impact of this collaborative work in the years to come. We encourage you to share this information with your colleagues and community-level partners so that all of your hard work and commitment to urban forest management throughout your state may be celebrated. Best regards, Dan Lambe Vice President, Programs Arbor Day Foundation
