  2. Project Overview A. Introduction B. Background and Theory C. Methods and Measurement & Measurement D. Results E. Discussion F. Implications G. Limitations and Future Research

  3. Introduction (so what) • Problem: notice a lot of people are having shorter attention spans (cite) • Shopping data indicates cheez whiz purchases have increased (cite) Is there a correlation between consumers consumption of cheez whiz and their attention span?

  4. Background • Research on attention span indicates attention span is correlated with release of dopamines and adrenaline in brain center (Cite) • Research on chemistry indicates ingredient X is related to release of adrenaline (cite) • Cheese whiz contains trace amounts of ingredient X. Therefore, H1: Increased consumption of cheese whiz leads to decreased attention span

  5. Method Full Experimental Design • 20 college attending friends • All randomly assigned to control or test group (10 in each) • All given pre and post period surveys (questions: attention span) • Test group given 1 container of cheese wiz a day (for a week) to use (not told purpose of study). • Post period survey asked participant to indicate how much cheese wiz used over the week—data check=good.

  6. Results Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) used with 1 factor (group assignment) with two levels (little cheese wiz, lots of cheese wiz) Sum of Squares df Mean Square F Sig. Between Groups 17.014 1 17.014 11.953 .001 Within Groups 99.639 70 1.423 Total 116.653 71 Attention Span Problem more cheez whiz less cheez whiz

  7. Discussion Based on the results of the study, we find support for the hypothesis that there is a correlation between consumption of cheez whiz and attention span.

  8. Implications • Given the results, policy makers concerned about educational performance should assess the level of cheez wiz consumption in schools, and, if it is high, take actions to minimize it. • For firms manufacturing cheez wiz, customer education and helplines should be made available to help consumers who have ingested too much cheez whiz.

  9. Limitations and Future Research • One limitation was that we only examined one flavor of cheez whiz. The question remains whether the effect might be smaller or larger for other flavors of cheez wiz. Future research is needed that contrasts different flavors.
