  14. VARIABLE • Variable: A factor that can change in an experiment. Every experiment has two – one is the cause, the other is the effect.

  15. Wait.. what is a cause-effect relationship? • CAUSE --> What we think is making something happen (creating an EFFECT). • (EX: CAUSE = BABY) • EFFECT --> A change that is a result or consequence of the CAUSE. • (EX: EFFECT = Pasta Everywhere)

SO WHAT IS A HYPOTHESIS REALLY? • An hypothesis is a proposed answer to a scientific question (an educated guess). • Scientist must do 2 things BEFOREforming a “Good” hypothesis: • Identify Independent & Dependent Variable • from the scientific question • Perform Background Research A hypothesis is written in the form of a STATEMENT, NOT A QUESTION!

  19. HYPOTHESIS - NEXT STEP, Writing a Hypothesis • A Good Hypothesis must be... • A proposed answer/prediction to a question • Must show a cause-effect relationship with the independent dependent variable • Written in away that it can be tested • using If....(IV)...then (DV)....
