In the news…

“Fresh water supply pressured by growing population, social demands”

“Population explosion and climate change are straining the water supply”

“Two-thirds of the world’s population will face water stress in less than 20 years if current trends continue”

“Driving the demand for water are population growth and mobility, rising living standards, changes in food consumption, and increased energy production”

population growth and climate change
Population Growth andClimate Change
  • Environmental problems are aggravated by population size: current 6.8 billion are already a climate threat.
  • The impact of probable growth to 9 billion will depend in large part on what those people consume.
  • Poor countries have high fertility but lower impact on global emissions.
  • Rich countries have low fertility but their high consumption causes global environmental damage
  • ‘Development’ and growing consumption in large, middle-income countries will have the most impact on climate change.
