  • Field visit a local HIGH hazard Dam

  • Check pertinent structures at the dam – i.e. principal spillway, emergency spillway, dam crest, low-level outlet, right abutment, etc.

  • Consider failure modes/scenarios applicable for use in DamCREST

  • Check downstream river valley for hydraulic controls (man-made or natural) and Manning’s “n” of channel and floodplain (at least 1 mile)

  • Check NID Dam catalogue for pertinent dam data correctness

  • Office setup of DamCREST from field trip including dam properties and downstream river valley x-sections for routing of Simplified Dambreak flood wave

  • Use USGS 1:24000(or orthoquad) mapping and FEMA FIS profiles to develop x-sections (future x-sections using GIS DEM layers with FLDVIEW and FLDAT)
