  1. Hofstadter spectrum of trapped Fermi gases in modulated square optical lattices within a synthetic gauge field Li-Jun Lang(郎利君) and Shu Chen(陈澍) Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, P. R. China

  2. Abstract We investigate the effects of the modulation in hopping terms on the Hofstadter butterfly spectrum, and find that the single particle spectrum will be deformed. During this process some gaps appear and some disappear. To discuss their topological properties we calculate the density profile in LDA with the harmonic potential and the Hall conductance using Streda formula. In this way we may experimentally observe these modulated spectra in optical lattices.
