  1. Do Now! • -9 + 10 • -8 – (-12) • -9(7) • For 4 -5 give me the integer goes with them. • 4. A sailor falls overboard 43 feet. • 5. A plane ascends 843 yards into the sky. • USE YOUR I (Identify) D (Determine) K(Knowledge)!! • 6. A frog starts on a flower 10 feet above the water. He falls off of it at a rate of 1 foot per second. What is an integer that could represent how far below the water he was after 15 seconds? • 7. The temperature started at 8 degrees above freezing. It rose by another 8 degrees but then dropped 20 degrees. What was the final temperature?

  2. I can… • Define and identify rational numbers, irrational numbers, whole numbers and integers.

  3. Positive numbers without a fraction or decimal part and zero. Above zero No fractions or decimals Whole Numbers A deposit of $24 I gain 5 tickets during class I lost 19 points on my quiz. I only had one half of my HW completed.

  4. What is an integer? Any negative or positive whole number and zero. Whole number Negative Positive Integer I ate three-fourths of the pizza. -0.43 I have $0 in my bank account. The temperature outside was -6°F

  5. Any number that can be written as a fraction, repeating or terminating decimal. Terminating decimal – stops at specific point Repeating decimal – goes on with a pattern forever Rational Numbers 0.333333 4 My text messaging costs $0.87 per message.. -0.185

  6. A number that cannot be written as a simple fraction. Non-terminating decimals Non-repeating decimals Irrational Numbers 8.121212121212

  7. I can… • Define and identify rational numbers, irrational numbers, whole numbers and integers.

  8. Show what you know! • Take 3 note cards from the stack and pass the rest behind you. • Write ONE example on each note card. • 1. Whole Number • 2. Integer • 3. Rational Number • 4. Irrational Number • I will collect the cards and re-distribute

  9. Show what you know! PART ONE • You will be given 1 card each. • When I say “GO,” you may SILENTLY get up from your seat and go to the corner of the room that matches your number. • Stand silently until you are told to read out your number. You may then take your number and sit back down.

  10. Show what you know! • You will be given 3 cards. • When I say “GO,” get up from your seat and SILENTLY drop off your cards in the right corners. • Once you have dropped off your cards, you may sit back down.

  11. Think-Write-Share What do rational and irrational numbers have in common? How do they contrast from each other?

  12. Exit Ticket • Classify each of the following as a whole number, integer, rational or irrational number: • 56 • 293.0392… • 9.3434 • -12 • 5. Create your own example of: • Rational Number • Integer • Irrational Number • d. Whole Number
