Describe the various metaphors the director employs (think: the locked travel trunk in the basement) What are some of Truman’s desires he keeps “hidden” from other people? Describe his private self. What public persona does Truman have? Describe his public self. When this movie came out, reality TV was getting a foothold, but far from the mega-money-maker it became. Why do you think people like “reality” TV or buy/read People magazine?

Truman’s best friend lies right to his face. Every one else is lying as well. Or are they? It was all real on the show. Even if the “outside” is reality, the whole “inside” is true. Or is it? Explain your reasoning. Think. Think hard. This is the major motif in the movie.
