  1. “Death is terrible for anyone. Young or old, good or evil, it’s all the same. Death is impartial. There is no especially terrible death. That’s why death is so fearsome. Your deeds, your age, your personality, your wealth, your beauty: they are all meaningless in the face of death.” ― SunakoKirishiki Shiki

  2. “Each man lives in his own universe and when he dies the world is over” ― Bangambiki Habyarimana, The Great Pearl of Wisdom “The fear of death never left me; I couldn't get used to the thought; I would still sometimes shake and weep with terror.” ― Simone de Beauvoir, Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter

  3. “I am young now and can look upon my body and soul with pride. But it will be mangled soon, and later it will begin to disintegrate, and then I shall die, and die conclusively. How can we face such a fact, and not live in fear?” ― Jack Kerouac

  4. “The mightiest power of death is not that it can make people die, but that it can make the people you left behind want to stop living.” ― Fredrik Backman, My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry

  5. “It hurts when they're gone. And it doesn't matter if it's slow or fast, whether it's a long drawn-out disease or an unexpected accident. When they're gone the world turns upside down and you're left holding on, trying not to fall off.” ― Walter Mosley

  6. “I was tired of well-meaning folks, telling me it was time I got over being heartbroke. When somebody tells you that, a little bell ought to ding in your mind. Some people don't know grief from garlic grits. There's somethings a body ain't meant to get over. No I'm not suggesting you wallow in sorrow, or let it drag on; no I am just saying it never really goes away. (A death in the family) is like having a pile of rocks dumped in your front yard. Every day you walk out and see them rocks. They're sharp and ugly and heavy. You just learn to live around them the best way you can. Some people plant moss or ivy; some leave it be. Some folks take the rocks one by one, and build a wall.” ― Michael Lee West, American Pie

  7. Romans 8:20, 22 (ESV) For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, … For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. Job 14:1 (ESV) Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble.

  8. “No one is without troubles, without personal hardships and genuine challenges. That fact may not be obvious because most people don't advertise their woes and heartaches. But nobody, not even the purest heart, escapes life without suffering battle scars.” ― Richelle E. Goodrich, Smile Anyway

  9. O’ Death, Where is Your Victory?O’ Death, Where is Your Sting?Rejoicing in the ResurrectionApril 21, 2019

  10. Resurrection Implications:Justification 1 Corinthians 15:17 (ESV) And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Romans 4:24b–25 (ESV) It will be counted to us who believe in Him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. C.f. Romans 8:11; Colossians 2:12-13

  11. Resurrection Implications:Sanctification Romans 6:4 (ESV) We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

  12. Resurrection Implications:Glorification 2 Corinthians 4:14 (ESV) knowing that He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into His presence. Philippians 3:20–21 (ESV) But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power that enables Him even to subject all things to Himself.

  13. Resurrection Implications:Glorification 1 Corinthians 15:20–21 (ESV) But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.

  14. Resurrection Implications:Glorification Romans 8:18–23 (ESV) For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

  15. Resurrection Implications:Glorification 2 Peter 3:13 (ESV) But according to His promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Revelation 21:1 (ESV) Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

  16. Testimonies

  17. Application: • As Christians, we can/should look forward to what is on the other side of death. Philippians 1:23 (ESV) I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.

  18. Revelation 21:1-5 (ESV) Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also He said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

  19. Application: • We don’t grieve as the world grieves. 1 Thessalonians 4:13–14 (ESV) But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep.

  20. Application: • We shouldn’t be enamored with this world. We are just passing through and it’s going to be replaced by something far better. Colossians 3:1–4 (ESV) If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

  21. Application: • We don’t have to be obsessed with doing everything possible to prolong our lives or cling to this life. 1 Timothy 4:8 (ESV) for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

  22. Application: • The way we face life & death is a powerful testimony and help to others. 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (ESV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

  23. Application: • All of the preceding applications are only for those who have trusted their eternal existence on Jesus Christ. Exodus 34:7 (ESV) Who will by no means clear the guilty… Romans 3:23-24 (ESV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

  24. Application: • All of the preceding applications are only for those who have trusted their eternal existence on Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9–10 (ESV) because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
