  3. A person who doesn’t know the history of his country, won’t see the future

  4. We will make a plan of our lesson in such a way: All children have a summary of our today's lesson. Firstly one of the students will make a report and ask a question. Then you'll have to solve an equation to answer this question. The level of difficulty you may choose by yourselves

  5. Christopher Columbus was born in Italy. He was the eldest of 5 children in his family. His father was a wool weaver. Columbus grew up thinking and dreaming about great sea adventures. When he was 19, he started his travels by ship. Living in Portugal he asked the King for ships and sailors for each, equipment and a title of admiral. The King refused his request. Columbus’ Day

  6. Soon Columbus married Dena Felipa, a fine Portuguese woman. He, dreamt of sailing west to the Indies and took his plans to King Ferdinand and Queen Israel of Spain. In 1492 permission for the trip was granted. There was an amusing rumor that Queen Israel sold crown jewels to buy ships for the trip, but that was not true. On August 3, 1492 Columbus sailed from Spain.

  7. His wooden ships the Santa Maria, the Pinto and the Nina had no engines, no means of measuring distance, a few conveniences. They sailed for 3 weeks. On 13th of October they beheld land in the moonlight. He believed they had reached the east Indies by sea. They explored the large island, which Columbus named San Salvador and Several others until Christmas Day when Santa Maria wrecked and sank.

  8. Columbus was made an admiral and ordered to make a second voyage to the New World. In general he made 4 trips to the New World. And eventually realized that new territory was not the East Indies, but an entirely different continent. How amazed he would have been to look 500 years into the future and see the New World which now spread from sea to sea.

  10. A century is one hundred years. When we refer to the 20' century, we are talking about the 1900s. Let us go back to the 15 century and take a look at what took place during the 1400s. This was an era of exploration. Spain, England, France, and other countries made claims of vast areas. Magellan commanded the first group of ships to circle the world; he didn't live to complete the voyage, but he planned it and provided the leadership the voyage needed to be successful.   12. 1621: The Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving with the Indians who brought them seeds of native plants —pumpkins, squash, beans of corn, and showed them how to grow these crops. 1775-1783: The revolutionary War was fought. British-American differences broke out is open war, and the colonists decided to fight for their independence.

  13. 1776: On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress offiсially declared independence and formed the United States of America by adopting the Declaration of Independence. 1787: After the Revolutionary War ended, a new constitution was written. The constitution created a new Federal Union, a democratic republic, a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

  14. The northern States developed new industries. The Southern created a cotton economy. The Western movement reached the Pacific. The North and South moved toward war because of political differences. 1876: Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.

  15. 1965-1973:The United States fought in the Vietnam War. 1969:Astronaut Neil Armstrong walked on the moon

  16. As we look forward to the future, we are reminded of the world of Martin Luther King, Jr., “I have a dream ". As a nation we still have the dream of realizing the goals this great leader and our other visionary leaders set forth. May the children of America make it their pledge to work for freedom and justice for all people!

In Minnesota is the smallest Moscow. The biggest one is in the state of Idaho. There are 15000 citizens in it and there is one University. In most of the cases these twins of Moscow appeared soon after 1812. That's when Borodino appeared in the state of New York. During the Crimean war (1853-1856) 6 Sevastopols appeared in the USA. Sevastopol - the tribute to a courage of defenders of the city on the Black Sea. The former guardian officer P.A. Dementiev came to the USA from Twerskayagubernya. He built a railway in Florida together with an American businessman Williams. The settlement appeared. How could they name it? Williamson made a proposition to name if New-Detroit. Dementiev wanted to name it Saint-Petersburg. Saint-Petersburg stands on Mexican Bay since those times. There are are many Odessas in the USA. Only 2 American Odessas are washed by the seas. Other Odessas are situated in the steppe-regions. Russian names on the USA map

  19. There is a railway station that is called Siberia. People, who gave it such name, had a good sense of humor. This is the hottest place in the west of the USA. Numerous cities located in the USA were created owing to friendly manners of Russian settlers. The memory of some courageous Russians has preserved. Those people inserted their names to the glorious pages of the history of America. So it's not accidental that we can see a lot of Russian names, so sweet to our hearts, on the map of USA.

  20. How many Odessas are there in the USA? How many Moscows are there in the USA? To solve the equation : Solution : a = 1, b=-19, c=90 D = = 361-360 = 1 = Answer : There are 9 Odessas and 10 Moscows in the USA.

  21. In the United States, presidential elections are held in years evenly divisible by four (1882,1900,1964, etc.). Since 1840, American presidents elected in years ending with zero have died in office, with one exception. Presidential elections

  22. William H. Harrison, the man who served the shortest term, died of pneumonia only several weeks after his inauguration.

  23. Abraham Lincoln was one of four presidents who were assassinated. He was elected in 1860, & his untimely death came just five years later.

  24. James A. Garfield, a former Union army general from Ohio, was shot during his first year in office (1881) by a man to whom he wouldn't give a job.

  25. While in his secondterm of office (1901) William McKinley, another Ohioan, attended the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. During the reception, he was assassinated while shaking hands with some of the guests.

  26. John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 in Dallas only three years after his election.

  27. Three years after his election in 1920, Warren G. Harding died in office. Although it was never proved, many believe he was poisoned.

  28. Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected four times (1932,1936, 1940, 1944), the only man to serve so long. He had contracted polio in 1921 & eventually died of the illness in 1945.

  29. Ronald Reagan, who was elected in 1980 & re-elected four years later, suffered an assassination attempt but did not succumb to the assassin's bullets. Не was the first to break the long chain of unfortunate events.
