  1. Kiah Walton To understand how stereotypes and employment opportunities were perceived during the civil rights and in the play A Raisin in the Sun.

  2. STEREOTYPES OF AFRICAN AMERICAN • Poor, Low classified Jobs, • Working for whites, Lazy, • Dirty, Less intelligent, • Should work on hands and knees • Relates to A Raisin in the Sun • Walter = Chauffer • Ruth= Servant • Travis= Asked to carry Groceries

  3. Employment Opportunities • Servants • Worked for whites • Paid less than whites • Limited to jobs • I saw this effect of the historical topic in the play Walter had to work as a chauffer and Ruth worked as servants

  4. My culture/ethnic background • I am African American, Native American, and White • My background does not factor into my own view of my personal identity • there is more to me than my ethnicity • Christian • Theme: Your culture does not always defines who you are

  5. Personal Dream/Goals • I want to be a fashion designer • I want to own my own store like Forever 21 • I want to have my own family • Theme: Dreams are destine to happen only if you believe you can achieve them

  6. Most important thing I learned • Blacks were able to get through • Struggle • Pain • Discrimination • Segregation • A Raisin in the Sun • Money is not life • Everyone has dreams • Don’t’ let yourself stand in front of your dreams • You have to love others when they’re at their lowest
