STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS • Any student wanting to become involved with HYDRO-Higginsville Youth Directing Realistic Opportunities please turn in your information sheet to Mrs. Rhoad or to Teri Ray at the Chamber of Commerce Office.  HYDRO Organization Meeting and BBQ will be on SUNDAY, Aug 22 at 5:00 at Fairground Park, RSVP to Teri at the Chamber Office or to Mrs. Rhoad. • LL Football – register by Friday, August 20th for 6th grade. Information packets in the office. • LL Football Cheerleading – register by Friday, August 20th for 6th grade. Information packets in the office. • School pictures will be Wednesday, August 25

  4. Objective for Today’s Lesson • Students will be able to identify variables, numerical expressions, and variable expressions. Also, students will be able to write variable expressions for words and phrases. Why is this important?

  5. Definitions • Variable: A letter that stands for a number that is unknown. (Ex. x+3; x is a variable) • Numerical expression: A mathematical phrase that uses numerals and operation symbols. (Ex 7+3; 7+3 is a numerical expression) • Variable expression: A mathematical phrase that uses variables, numerals, and operation symbols. (Ex. x+3; x+3 is a variable expression)

  6. Identify each expression as a numerical or a variable expression. For a variable expression, what is the variable? Numerical Variable
