Status of Actions • Reviewed 27 proposed standards projects from the MSFC program office for the Center • NASA STD-6004 “Stress Corrosion Cracking” review • Provided approval letter in June 2003 • NASA STD-7002A “Payload Test Requirements” review • Provided Draft 1 approval letter in March 2003, Draft 2 in June 2003 • Effectiveness Assessment Action No. 79 • Response provided in August and September 2003 • NASA-STD-5012 “Strength & Life Assessment of Engines” • Provided approval letter in September 2003 • NASA-HDBK-5010, "Fracture Control Implementation Handbook For Payloads, Experiments, and Similar Hardware" • Provided approval letter in September 2003

NASA Standards in Development • Coating Standard – Project Leader – Lou MacDowell • Qualified Suppliers list needs updating • GSE Design Standard – Project Leader – Larry Schultz • OSP requested an updated standard • Draft revision given to OSP for review prior to official update • GSE Welding Standard – Project Leader - Scott Murray • Standard will be up for revalidation in 2004 • Draft revision sent to the program office • Vibro-acoustic handbook – Project Leader Ravi Margasahayam • Comments incorporated by contractor personnel • Updated draft sent to MSFC in June 6, 2003 • Updated draft under review by the Agency • AP2 Handbook – Project Leader Chris Brown, AP2 Program Office • Project Leader to incorporate portions of the handbook into a new AP2 NPG • Completion will be delayed until after the NPG is complete

  8. Program Awareness/Issues/Initiatives • Hosted a NASA Technical Standards Program Awareness session at KSC – Attendance 50 personnel

Center Review Processes • Standard Proposal Review • Each proposed standard is reviewed by the Center Technical Standards POC for Center expertise. • If expertise is at the Center, the proposal is assigned to a Center subject matter expert for review and comment using the Technical Standards webpage forwarding capability. • Draft Standard Review • Each draft standard is reviewed by the Center standards POC for Center expertise. • If expertise is at the Center, the draft standard is assigned to a Center organization or expert for review and comment using the KAITS system. • A Center concurrence or approval letter with or without comments is prepared and signed by the KSC SMO.
