What are games? • Go beyond immediate imagination and direct physical activity. • Expressing basic parts of human nature • Capture the ideas and behaviors of people at 1 period of time to their descendants • Archaeologists excavate artifacts related to living, working, family, social activities, games

  3. Gaming 100 years ago • No technology • All hand games • Cards • Board games • Outdoor games: hopscoch, jumping, catch, hide and seek, etc. • Games were not played on the computer, they were physical activities that were fun for children.

  4. The first video game • Tennis for two • At Brookhaven National Laboratory • William Hignibotham • Wanted to create something that would get people involved • Visitors waited in a line to play tennis for two • 18 October 1958 (more than 50 years ago) • Weighed several 100 pounds

  9. Now • Now-a-days people mostly teenagers play games online and on the x-box or play station • 3D games were invented to make it more adventurous • Less people play outside and stay inside to play on the computer • Fighting, killing, adventure.
