  3. Comprehensive Explanation Implement Advanced Surface Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) Level 2 • This objective aims at implementing A-SMGCS Level 2 which consists of an airport surface surveillance system (i.e. A-SMGCS Level 1) complemented by an A-SMGCS control tool to detect potential conflicts on runways and intrusions into restricted areas and provide the controllers with appropriate alerts; • The applicability area is presented in Table 8 of Part IV Annex B of the ESSIP 2012 document; • Initial operational capability - 01/2007, Full operational capability - 12/2017 September 2013

  4. Link to European ATM Master Plan • [AO-0102]-Automated Alerting of Controller in Case of Runway Incursion or Intrusion into Restricted Areas September 2013

  5. Most important SLoA(s) • ASP01 - Install required A-SMGCS control function equipment; • ASP02 - Train aerodrome control staff in the use of A-SMGCS Level 2 in the provision of an aerodrome control service; • ASP03 - Implement approved A-SMGCS Level 2 operational procedures at airports equipped with A-SMGCS Level 2. • APO01 – Install required A-SMGCS control function equipment September 2013

  6. Most important Finalisation Criteria • ASP01 - Equipment that meets agreed performance requirements and specifications of A-SMGCS Level 2 is installed; • ASP02 - Controllers training in accordance with agreed training requirements and programme have been completed; • ASP03 - Local procedures have been developed, implemented, approved/certified and are being used by controllers at airports equipped with A-SMGCS Level 2. • APO01 – Equipment that meets agreed performance requirements and specifications of A-SMGCS Level 2 has been installed September 2013
