  1. InfraGard A Government and Private Sector Alliance Information sharing begins with human relationships – people talking with people whom they trust.

  2. InfraGard A public/private information sharing program established to protect our nation’s critical infrastructures from both physical and cyber threats.

  3. Purpose • Provide opportunity to exchange ideas, information and security practices between industry, government and academia. • Provide members with timely threat advisories, alerts and warnings • Host regular Chapter meetings w/Member presentations

  4. Purpose (Continued) • Host seminars and conferences on infrastructure protection • Facilitate information security awareness and education campaigns for members and non-members

  6. Member Eligibility • Resident in the State of California • Interested in infrastructure protection • Completed application, which includes FBI screening

  8. The Alert Network • Mechanism to voluntarily notify the FBI in the event of a physical or cyber attack. When a members determines that a report is appropriate, use encryption technology to send two descriptions of the incident. • Sanitized (does not identify the victim) & Detailed (to be used by the FBI for investigation)

  9. 2-Way Information Sharing • Information from key FBI squads or task forces can be modified and shared with InfraGard members • Information provided by InfraGard members to the FBI is shared with appropriate squads, Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), and Terrorist Early Warning Group (TEWG)

  10. Forum for members to communicate Prompt dissemination of threat warnings Help in protecting computer systems Education and training on infrastructure vulnerabilities A community that shares information in a trusted environment FBI Agent Sector Representative Membership Benefits

  12. Conclusion The threat to our critical infrastructure is real and growing There is a need for a greater alliance between public and private sectors Cooperation and information sharing will enhance an effective response The Bad Guys ARE cooperating, and sharing information – We’d better START!
