  1. C A N A D A An IncredibleEncounter.

  2. Few people have had the opportunity to witness the amazing friendly behaviour between sled dogs and polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba (Hudson Bay), CANADA.

  3. The migration of bears north to hunt and spend the winter, through the area where many sled dogs reside, causing rather unexpected encounters.

  4. Sometimes an adult polar bear comes near the dogs and in rare cases something amazing can happen.

  5. The totally wild bear, seeks the company of one of the dogs, comes and play with it, while fasting, and meanwhile, the ice forms in the bay to allow them to move in search of food.

  6. Norbert Rosing a German photographer (National Geographic) never imagined seeing for the first time a polar bear playing with sled dogs, during his stay in Churchill, the world polar bear capital.

  7. Dog breeder Brian Ladoon, who helped save the Canadian Eskimo dogs from extinction, was telling Rosing during his visit, that polar bears came every year to play with the dogs, up to the month of November.

  8. In disbelief Rosing waited several weeks for him to check it out. For six weeks, he saw a large polar bear on the horizon approach.

  9. About 60 dogs were tied up in the camp. All began to bark pulling their chains, except one.

  10. The bear looked at them in turn, and seemed bored.

  11. But then he stopped and looked at the dog that did not bark.

  12. After 15 to 20 minutes the bear earns the dog's trust, exchanging signals as they approached. The dog showed no sign of fear, indeed, his stooped posture while shaking its tail was a clear invitation, as if to say: "Will you play with me?"

  13. Face to face, eyes relaxed the bear showing no fangs, no bristling dog hairs, while it showed a peaceful behavior.

  14. The bear took the dog in his big paws, Rosing does not believe his eyes: he thought he could kill him at any time. When the dog felt too tight, it started barking, the bear let go immediately and withdrew.

  15. The claws and teeth of the bear, deadly on other occasions, became tools throughout the game, exchanged signals, creating an unexpected sense of confidence.

  16. The game lasted about 20 minutes, then another amazing thing happened. The bear lay quietly on his back in the snow next to the dog, letting it get closer to him.

  17. In the animal kingdom, particularly in the world of predators such as bears and dogs, lying back in a absolute vulnerable position is a submissive posture.

  18. The second day a different dog came to replace the first and so on.

  19. It was fascinating, I could not believe it. The bear came back five days at the same hour, for around 15 hours.

  20. They still give a lesson to us,the Rational Animals that we are "supposed to be". The END Translation from French:
