  3. MAKING THE GRADE! To be promoted to 11th grade students must have a minimum of eleven credits. The table below shows the promotion requirements for each grade level:

ON-LINE REQUIREMENT • At least one course must be taken on-line. • Personal Fitness and US Gov./Economics will fulfill the requirement. • Course can be taken through Volusia Virtual or Florida Virtual School. • Credit recovery or to accelerate • Student must take the full content of the course: • 1.0 credit course – complete both semesters • 0.5 course – complete course

REMEDIATION OPTIONS • It is YOUR student’s responsibility! • Review their academic history. • Meet with their School Counselor to obtain the report. • If at anytime in their high school career they have earned an “F” in a core subject; they are responsible for making up that credit to meet graduation requirements!

  7. WHAT’S IN A TRANSCRIPT? • Transcript are your student’s calling card when it comes to college admissions and scholarship searches. Keep in mind that colleges will initially base their admissions decision on the first three years of high school. It is up to your student to distinguish him/herself from their peers by taking as RIGOROUS a curriculum as possible. • Transcripts contain their entire academic history since they started high school. In addition to their academic history, their transcript also includes the following critical information: • Attendance • Class rank • Final grades for all courses taken • Grade point average (GPA) • Tests scores (ELA, EOCs, PSAT, SAT, and ACT) • Community Service hours

  8. ASSESSMENTS • FSA ELA Writing: February 28th - March 3rd 2017 • FSA ELA: April 10th– April 21st 2017 • Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry EOC: April 17th - May 12th , 2017 • Biology & U.S. History EOC: April 17th – May 19th, 2017 • PSAT: October 19th, 2016

  9. ASSESSMENTS • Advance Placement (AP) Exams: May, 2017 • PERT for Dual Enrollment can be taken at Daytona State College or at our school on: • October 31st-Novemeber 10th 2016 • March 6th-March 10th 2017 • May 1st-May 19th 2017

DIPLOMA DESIGNATIONS • SCHOLAR DESIGNATION • In addition to the Standard High School Diploma • 1 credit in Algebra 2 • 1 credit in Statistics or equally rigorous math course • 1 credit in Chemistry or Physics • 1 credit in an equally rigorous science course to Chemistry or Physics • 2 credits in the same World Language • 6 (not 8) elective credits • Earn one credit in an Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment course or pass an approved Industry Certification. • Pass the EOC Assessment for Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Biology and United States History

DIPLOMA DESIGNATIONS • MERIT DESIGNATION • Meet the requirements for a standard high school diploma • Attain one or more industry certifications from a list established by the FLDOE • Example: Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)by completing the Health Science 1 & 2, and Emergency Medical Responder 3 sequence and passing the industry certification exam.

DIPLOMA DESIGNATIONS • SUPERINTENDENT SCHOLAR DIPLOMA • In addition to meeting the Standard requirements • The student must earn a weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher. • The student must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher in all AP courses. • The student must earn a 1170 on SAT or a 26 on ACT. • The student must take 2 years of the same World Language. • The student must pass all state EOC’s with a 3 or higher • Or the equivalent AP Test with a 3 or higher • Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Biology, and US History • The student must complete a minimum of four (4) AP courses • Passing an minimum of two (2) AP exams with a 3 or higher • The student must complete a minimum of 100 community service hours.

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS WORKSHOP • Meetings are held during lunch in the Media Center. • If special arrangements need to be made see Mrs. Rayner during office hours • Students MUST attend one workshop for community service hours to be logged! • Only hours completed during grades 9 – 12 will be added to the student’s record.

  14. DUAL ENROLLMENT - DSC • Must have earned credit in a high school course • 3.0 minimum GPA required • PERT – limited to two attempts at DSC • Required PERT scores: • Reading – 106 • Writing – 104 • Math – 114 for MAT1033 or 123 for MAC1105 Must meet both scores • 15 credits per semester maximum

  15. DUAL ENROLLMENT - BCU • A minimum 3.0 unweighted G.P.A • Minimum Qualifying Test Scores on ONE of the following tests: • SAT- Math & Reading (≥ 440)  • ACT- English & Math  (≥ 17) • Compass Test (Testing available at the B-CU Testing Center) • eWrite-Essay (≥ 8) • Math(≥ 42) 

  16. SAVE THE DATE • Upcoming Dates: • College Expo – September 26, 2016 from 5:30PM – 7:30PM at Mainland High School • Volunteer Workshop TOMORROW, September 9th • College Readiness Dine and Chat in Media Center during lunch for Class of 2019 and 2020 on Friday September 23rd.

WHAT TO DO SOPHOMORE YEAR? • Check Academic Evaluations for grades and status towards meeting requirements. • Meet with their school counselor about placement into advanced coursework. • Attend the community service workshop if they have not done so and or continue to accumulate community service hours. • Take the PSAT test in fall, that's the SAT practice test. • Strengthen relationships with peers, teachers, counselors, activity moderators, and employers-they will be writing recommendations for your student down the road! • Get involved…explore clubs and organizations available at school. Future employers and schools like to see active students. Seek out leadership roles.
