2. Today, we are going to talk about storage. Hopefully when we reach the end of our lesson, you will be able to make the most of the space that you have for the storage of your things. The first step in improving your home storage is to consider your family’s needs. Space for each family member’s clothing and favorite things should be provided. It can be as easy as learning your ABCs.

5. The first step in improving your home storage is to make an inventory of the items to be stored. It helps to list what items need to be stored in each room of the house. 15. Once you know exactly what you need to store and have organized the best you can, you may still need to add storage space. Your creativity can help you find storage solutions that are economical. You can find ideas and solutions to storage problems in home magazines and catalogs, as well as furniture stores, lumber and hardware stores, and home improvement centers. 21. A third option for storage is to either buy or build the storage systems needed. Storage units may be either wall mounted or freestanding. Whether you purchase units or build or have them built depends on skill, family budget, and time available. Una tercera opción para almacenar es comprar o construir los mubles adecuados que necesite. Simple shelving units can be built out of 3’ or 4’ long, 1 X 8 boards and bricks or concrete blocks. One advantage of this type shelving is that it is portable, and you can easily take it with you if you move. The boards can be sanded and stained, painted, or covered with a washable contact paper.

25. Another way to add shelf space is to purchase brackets and mount the brackets on the wall. A 1 x 8 or 1 X 12 board then becomes the shelf. These should be added at a higher location on the wall where small children cannot reach them. The board could be painted or stained as you desire. If you need additional hanging space or more accessible hanging space, there are several ways to accomplish this goal. One way is to purchase wire hangers for a rod. Another way is to make your own wire extenders out of a medium gauge wire. Measure your space for the length of rod you will need. Measure the distance needed between the rods. Then cut your wire so that you have ample length for securing it around the rod.
