MAjor VERC Functions Development of Innovative Models of Care Delivery Exploring the use of engineering methods and models to enhance and design efficient and reliable healthcare delivery systems in a complex environment. Dissemination of Engineering Tools throughout Healthcare Environment Develop and assist in the integration and use of advanced engineering tools within healthcare delivery and supporting systems. Develop Education and Training programs to cross-pollinate knowledge among Healthcare and Engineering professionals Capitalize on the interrelationship with leading universities to increase the awareness challenges facing the heath care domain to the engineering profession, as well as embed then engineering mindset and perspectives. Provide Industrial and Systems Engineering Expertise and Advice for the VHA Be a resource to the VHA in matters related to complex system design, redesign and optimization. Provide engineering and analytical perspectives on performance measurement and systemic impacts of innovate design patterns used in the improvement of healthcare delivery throughout the VHA.

Program Strengths Multi-disciplinary collaboration between VA Medical Centers and academic institutions across the country Specialize in a systems-based approach to solving complex problems Comprised of industrial and systems engineers, improvement specialists, researchers, leaders, and academics with expertise in areas such as: Lean and Six Sigma Computer simulation models Enterprise and project management Queuing methods and models Human factors engineering Healthcare Process optimization Knowledge management and education Statistical process control Data mining and predictive modeling Healthcare Operations research

    9. Major accomplishments MWM Partnering with OIA to develop Field-Based Analytics [FBA]. Program launched with 12 sites selected. FBA is pivotal in VHA transformation into a data driven organization Partnering with OCCC, OIT, and VA-CASE to develop and award PRISM contract. PRISM is foundation for VHA ISO9001 and reliability efforts

    10. Major accomplishments NE-VERC eSOP and Competencies. Brings improvements to current work of SPD, and sets stage to support longer term goals of OCCC and future technology improvements Specialty Compass. Tool for us in the upcoming Specialty Collaborative, drawing on work from PACT compass and other areas to provide more meaningful measurements to specialty care clinicians.

Major accomplishments VA-CASE Innovative of Healthcare Delivery Processes through partnerships with National Offices Interactive Visual Navigator [IVN] Dialysis Make/Buy Tool Development and Diffusion of SR/Lean Professional Development Programs Over 3500 VA Employees Trained Numerous Training Programs at all levels

Major accomplishments VAPHS VERC National Initiative to Reduce Missed Opportunities [NIRMO] Geospatial modeling for guiding geographic and economic decisions of high relevance to VA Dialysis Population and CBO Four Regional and One Nation Award for Healthcare Improvement work revolving around Telehealth and Cancer Care
