  1. Welcome to CapSEEDS Science Subtitle

  2. Logistics Grades, due dates, points, etc. will be discussed at the end of this class. Field trip for tomorrow – we will discuss and prepare after our break. Right now – let's work together in making this class a success.

  3. What is CapSEEDS? Brainstorm with your group of 3 using your shared paper • What is the overarching goal of this class, in your opinion? • What can you get out of the 3 types of experiences that make up this class? • Class time • Community Service • Class Project

  4. Finding your passion Again, brainstorming with your group: • What can someone your age realistically do in a summer? • What have you done that you've enjoyed and been proud of? • How can you make this a meaningful and worthwhile experience?

  5. Q&A What questions do you have about this class? What have you heard or what would you like to clear up?

  6. Guest Speaker

  7. CapSEEDS Project 60% of class grade Review details online – you are responsible for knowing all due dates and deliverables First due date: this Friday

  8. CapSEEDS Project Turning work in: Usually you will simply update the document online and I will check your work - you will need to invite your teacher to this document. Late work will be checked using versioning.

  9. Community Service Part of this class – 24 hours must be completed to pass (aka to graduate) If you miss a scheduled service for any reason (sick, work, etc), you are responsible for rescheduling to complete the full 24 hours before the class ends.

  10. Class Structure Review this material online – you are responsible for knowing the grading system, rubrics, late policy, etc. Question on when something is due, how many points it's worth, etc? Look online before asking us.

  11. Question 1 It's 8am next Tuesday and you're feeling ill. What do you do? • Call your community service contact person • Email your CapSEEDS teacher • Email your community service contact person • Do nothing, you'll let them know Thursday

  12. Question 2 Your community service location has an outing on a Thursday morning when you're scheduled to volunteer. • You ask your contact person if you can miss the outing, without making up the hours. • You miss that day but you make up the hours on your own. • You ask if you can make up the hours after July 25th. • You attend the outing, even though it's double the hours.

  13. Question 3 You miss one class due to illness and another due to a family trip. You also miss one of your community service days because of your summer job. • None of these are excused. • All of these are excused. • Only the community service absence is unexcused. • Only the illness absence is excused.
