  7. The Princess and the Pea • Original The Princess and the Pea" is a literary fairy tale about a young woman whose royal identity is established by a test of her physical sensitivity. The tale was first published with three others by Andersen in an inexpensive booklet on 8 May 1835 in Copenhagen. Disney – sadly not! The story has been adapted to two films, one full length feature in 2002, and a six-minute IMAX production in 2001. Underrated and no Disney princess! Other Versions In 1959 "The Princess and the Pea" was adapted to the musical stage in a production called Once upon a Mattress.

  9. Little Red Riding Hood • Original Little Red Riding Hood was written by French author Charles Perrault. He was born 388 years ago on January 12, today, and has become immortalized as the father of the fairy tale. He wrote Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. In the tale of Little Red she walks to her sickly grandmothers house with some food and meets a wolf. She avoids him on the path but then when she arrives at grandmas the wolf is in the bed after eating the women. When she gets suspicious the wolf jumps out of bed, and eats her up too. Then he falls asleep. Disney The wolf is back! In the tale of little red riding hood and Disney, again an older version of a classic. Other Versions Little Red Riding Hood has been changed considerably in its history and subject to numerous modern adaptations and readings. In the Brothers Grimm version a woodcutter cuts them out after hearing the cries and they emerge alive! Don’t forget the adaption's “Once Upon a Time” and “Hoodwinked”

  11. Jack and the Beanstalk • Original "Jack and the Beanstalk" is an English fairy tale. It appeared as "The Story of Jack Spriggins and the Enchanted Bean“. The original story portrays a "hero" gaining the sympathy of a man's wife, hiding in his house, robbing, and finally killing him.  Benjamin Tabart wrote a version in 1734 and as the moralized "The History of Jack and the Bean-Stalk" in 1807, making the giant out to be bad and therefore it being ok to take from him. Then Joseph Jacobs rewrote it in English Fairy Tales (1890). His version is most commonly reprinted today and it is believed to be closer to the oral versions than Tabart's because it lacks the moralizing. The giant was normally un-named but also sometimes known as ‘Bluderbone’. Disney Disney made a short of the same name in 1922, and a separate adaptation entitled Mickey and the Beanstalk in 1947. Other Versions Many versions of Jack and the beanstalk has been written but not much changes.

  13. Cinderella • Original The first written European version of the story was published in Naples, in 1634. The story itself was based in the Kingdom of Naples. It was later retold by Perrault and the Brothers Grimm in their folk tale collection Grimms Fairy Tales. None of this wimpy "my foot doesn't fit" stuff for the Grimms. To fit her into the tiny golden slipper, one of her sisters cuts off her big toe, the other a bit of her heel. Their plans are foiled by the blood everywhere (which surely somebody must have thought about), but hey, points for trying.
