It is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open-source software and is designed mainly for touchscreen mobile devices like tablets and smartphones. In addition to touch screen devices, Android OS also supports cars, televisions and other devices. Android OS is open-source and free and has been used by different companies to create their own customized versions. Android OS has a large and growing ecosystem of applications and accessories. There are over 1.3 million apps for Android, and many of those are free. And there are a number of different ways to get them, including the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, and third-party app stores.
