This supplementary figure illustrates the pattern of water extraction in six pearl millet entries, including lines introgressed with a drought tolerance QTL. Water uptake was measured under late stress (LS) and filled profile (a) or unfilled profile (b), and under early stress (ES) and filled profile (c) or unfilled profile (d). Vertical bars indicate LSD at P<0.05. Timing of intervals indicate the number of weeks after panicle emergence and the water uptake data assigned to each date corresponds to the period, usually one week, preceding that date.
