  3. A proper attitude • Make up your mind to overcome • We do what we want to do!IF we want to overcome, we will find a way.If we DON’T want to overcome, we won’t! • 2 Corinthians 7:11Colossians 3:2 – set your mind Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  4. Use God’s Word • Jesus did – Matthew 4:4, 7, 10 • Psalm 119:11, 37:30-31, The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice. The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide. Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  5. Use God’s Word • 1 John 3:9, Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in Him • Cf. Luke 8:11, Colossians 3:16, While His seed is His influence, remember that the “seed” is the word of God Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  6. Use God’s Word • How does God’s word keep us from sinning? • It reminds us of sin 1 John 2:1 • It gives us the way of escape – 1 Corinthians 10:13 • It can be a righteous diversion Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  7. Use God’s Word • Write down scriptures to remind you sin is lurking • Deuteronomy 6:4-9 • Troubles with lust – Job 31:2, Matthew 5:27-28 • Wasting our time – Ephesians 5:15-16 • Financial troubles- Proverbs 22:7 • The tongue – Matthew 12:26 • Etc. Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  8. Prayer • Part of the forgiveness process – Acts 8:22 • For wisdom in dealing with temptations Matthew 6:13, James 1:5-6, 2 Peter 2:9 • Jesus prayed for others – John 17:15, cf. Luke 22:32 Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  11. Keep your heart pure • Proverbs 4:23 – out of it springs the issues of life • How many have corrupted or impure hearts because we allow worldly influences • Out of the heart – Matthew 12:34-35 • Matthew 5:8 • We think godly – Philippians 4:8 Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  12. Put on the armor of God • Ephesians 6:10-11 – with it we resist the devil and his ways • Godly qualities – cf. Galatians 5:22-23, Ephesians 5:8-10 • With godly habits we are better prepared to deal with the devil • 1 John 5:18 – he “keeps himself” Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  13. Remove the temptation • Mark 9:43-48 – a warning of Jesus • Choose your friends and associations carefully – 1 Corinthians 15:33, 5:6 • Resist the devil – James 4:71 Peter 5:8-9 Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  14. Keep busy doing good • Galatians 6:10 – as we have opportunity • Consider Jesus – Acts 10:38 • Idleness – 2 Thessalonians 3:11-14, 1 Timothy 5:13 • Busyness keeps you out of trouble Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

  15. Live each day as if it were your last • Luke 13:3 – unless you repent • We do not know how long we have! Hebrews 9:271 Thessalonians 5:1-22 Peter 3:10-11 Dealing with our sins (2) – Overcoming Sins

Live each day as if it were your last • We ought to ask, what if I Have to stand before God in my present condition? • Luke 12:16-20, the rich fool • James 4:13-14, you life is a vapor • Far too many just do not think about these things or they have dismissed them outright.
