What NWMCOG does… • WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT • Local administrator for Federal & State workforce development funds • Administers the Michigan Works! system and Service Centers in its 10 county region • REGIONAL PLANNING and DEVELOPMENT • Scope includes working with transportation, water resources, land use & zoning, recreation, waste management and economic development issues • Provides technical assistance to local governmental, planning, EDC and Chamber of Commerce staff and officials • Completes specific projects that benefit from an “economy of scale” approach as directed by its member counties

What NWMCOG does…continued • REGIONAL PLANNING and DEVELOPMENT(continued) • Promotes communication among interested parties (as an example, hosts the Planners Review and Advisory Committee) • Collects, analyzes and disseminates data for both the public and private sectors • Affiliate of the State Data Center program • Hosts the Small Business & Technology Development Center • Hosts the Procurement Technical Assistance Center • Develops the regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy

  5. What NWMCOG does…continued • CORRECTIONS • Administers local community corrections programs (in 7 counties) designed to reduce prison and jail populations • Administers the Michigan Prisoner Re-Entry Initiative program (THE END)
