She was born in a poor neighbourhood and she spoke improper English. One day she met Professor Higgins who said that if she was educated, she could pass as an upper class lady. So she took speech lessons from him. Gradually, Eliza got familiar with the proper way to speak, act and dress. To see if Eliza had learned everything that was taught, Higgins took her to a royal ball and hoped she could convince everyone that she herself was from the upper class. Eliza was accepted as a perfect lady. Higgins was delighted to see that.
