  5. Day 1 • Teach “Das deutsche Fingeralphabet” and certain words in German • Give instructions about the assignment, including the self-evaluation rubric and the grading rubric.

  6. Days 2/3/4 • Start lesson with review of the sign language words and/or the Fingeralphabet • Show 30 minutes of the movie • Allow 12 - 15 minutes for writing • Answer questions about the movie and allow class discussion about issues

  7. Schreiben oder Writing • My 2nd year students write the essay in English (Our School Improvement Plan requires all content areas to also write in English). • Deutsch 3 und 4 schreiben auf Deutsch. • Questions are in English to ensure comprehension, since I use it as a sub plan as well!

  8. Day 5 • Write essay. This can also be done for homework on day 4. • Peer evaluation following a check-list • Corrections and re-evaluation by peers • Type essay in computer lab or as homework

  9. The Essay 1. The title, year it was filmed, director and a star rating, just like in the newspaper. 2. A brief, but concise summary of the movie, addressing at least 2 of Lara’s issues WITHOUT giving away the important details and the ending. 3. A recommendation who should watch the movie, why and what the student learned from watching it.

  10. Assessment • Students will turn in a compete packet of their work (see cover sheet) • Mini-quiz on Fingeralphabet and/or phrases
