According to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) report, 'Global Trends in Sustainable Energy Investment 2009', India's renewable energy investment grew by 12% in 2008.   3. नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा प्रौद्योगिकी RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW SOLAR With great expectations for India following the Bridge to India report “India Solar Compass” and the National Solar Missions plans for India’s huge developments for solar, CSP has been a clear focus for India , however as great as this is, currently India is struggling to meet the local content requirements imposed by the NSM. Project developers, IPP’s and EPCs have a lack of experience in these sectors and developers have struggled to find high quality local components. Rajasthan solar policy indicated an ambitious target of installing 12 GW of solar by the end of 2022 and other states such as Gujarat have also set impressive targets which will need to be met by 2022. Increasingly India is recognising what can be learnt from the west and welcomes companies from Europe and North America being able to supply this market with its quality and expertise in these sectors. Currently, seventeen manufacturers have an annual production capacity of 7,500 MW. According to the WISE, the annual wind turbine manufacturing capacity in India is likely to exceed 17,000 MW by 2013. The Indian market is expanding with the leading wind companies like Suzlon, Vestas, Enercon, RRB Energy and GE now being joined by new entrants like Gamesa, Siemens, and WinWinD, all vying for a greater market share. Suzlon, however, is still the market leader with a market share of over 50%. The Indian wind industry has not been significantly affected by the financial and economic crises. Even in the face of a global slowdown, the Indian annual wind power market has grown by almost 68%. However, it needs to be pointed out that the strong growth in 2010 might have been stimulated by developers taking advantage of the accelerated depreciation before this option is phased out www.renewable-energy-technology.net

  5. नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा प्रौद्योगिकी RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW HYDRO / BIO ENERGY Hydro Hydro power contributes about 21.5% of India's total installed power capacity of 1,76,990 MW (June, 2011), i.e. 38,106 MW. A capacity addition of 78,700 MW is envisaged from different conventional sources during 2007-2012 (the 11th Plan), which includes 15,627 MW from large hydro projects. In addition to this, a capacity addition of 1400 MW was envisaged from small hydro up to 25 MW station capacity. The total hydroelectric power potential in the country is assessed at about 150,000 MW, equivalent to 84,000 MW at 60% load factor. The potential of small hydro power projects is estimated at about 15,000 MW. India is ranked 5th globally in terms of exploitable hydro-potential. In addition, 56 number of pumped storage projects have also been identified with probable installed capacity of 94 000 MW. In addition to this, hydro-potential from small, mini & micro schemes has been estimated as 6 782 MW from 1 512 sites. Thus, India is endowed with hydro-potential of about 250,000 MW. Bio India is a predominantly agrarian economy, with availability of large quantities of biomass, which can be productively harnessed for meeting its burgeoning energy needs, as well as address larger developmental issues such as income and employment generation, environment protection and wasteland/saline land development, and improved quality of life of rural communities. The role & contribution of Bio-Energy in addressing India’s climate change and energy security needs, is on the rise and to give a further boost to this sector, the Government of India is contemplating the launch of Bio-Energy Mission during the 12th Five Year Plan.   6. नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा प्रौद्योगिकी RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY MARKET OVERVIEW • Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission • The Indian government has announced the National Solar Mission, outlining ambitious long-term plans to attain an installed solar power generation capacity of 20 GW by the year 2022, which would be increased to 100 GW by the year 2030, and 200 GW by the year 2050. The Solar Mission targets are: • To create an enabling policy framework for the deployment of 20 GW of solar power by 2022. • To ramp up capacity of grid-connected solar power generation to 1 GW by 2013; an additional 3 GW by 2017 through the mandatory use of the renewable purchase obligation by utilities backed with a preferential tariff. This capacity can be more than doubled – reaching 10 GW installed power by 2017 or more, based on the enhanced and enabled international finance and technology transfer. • To create favourable conditions for solar manufacturing capability, particularly solar thermal. • To promote programs for off grid applications, reaching 1 GW by 2017 and 2 GW by 2022. • To achieve 15 million square meters solar thermal collector area by 2017 and 20 million square meters solar thermal collector area by 2022. • To deploy 20 million solar lighting systems for rural areas by 2022.
