  9. House Bill 296 Beginning in July of 2014 localities, when developing their Comprehensive Plan, will be required to “take into consideration how to align transportation infrastructure and facilities with affordable, accessible housing and community services that are located within the territory in order to facilitate community integration of the elderly and persons with disabilities.”

  10. Model Ordinance Language Through the use of the Toolkit, TJPDC assembled best regulatory practices from localities throughout the state and organized the information into model ordinances, in order to provide a clear path for implementing ordinance revisions at the local level. The Toolkit’s assessment tool can be used to identify barriers in local regulatory instruments, and the model ordinance language can be considered for adoption to address those barriers.

  11. Model Ordinance Language Local governments in the Commonwealth of Virginia have several policy options available to help build communities in which people with disabilities are fully included. Descriptions of a number of local ordinances relating to housing, land use, and transportation that currently exist in Virginia are available.

  12. Model Ordinance Language A summary of each policy and a short list of potential benefits and potential costs can help local officials determine whether it is appropriate for their own community. • http://www.tjpdc.org/housing/THAtoolkit.asp
