  2. Declarative • DECLARATIVE comes from the verb, declare, which means to tell. • A DECLARATIVE sentence simply makes a statement. • Declarative sentences end with a PERIOD.

  3. Declarative EXAMPLES: • Boys are disgusting. • Girls are annoying. • Teachers are brilliant.

  4. Imperative • IMPERATIVE means necessary or required. • An IMPERATIVE SENTENCE simply gives a command or makes a request. • Imperative sentences end with a PERIOD.

  5. Imperative EXAMPLES: • Don’t pick your nose. • Clean your room. • Kick me, please.

  6. Interrogative • INTERROGATIVE comes from the verb, interrogate, which means to question. • An INTERROGATIVE sentence simply asksa question. • Interrogative sentences end with a question mark.

  7. Interrogative EXAMPLES: • Who wants to go? • Are you going to eat it? • How many will fail the test?

  8. Exclamatory • EXCLAMATORY comes from the verb, exclaim, which means to shout or yell. • An EXCLAMATORY sentence simply shows excitement or strong feeling. • Exclamatory sentences end with an exclamation mark.
