    1. M316L – Chapter 8 Exercises from 8.1 and 8.2 Instructor: Ricardo Teixeira September 17th, 2007

    2. Can you define a line as an infinite set of points? Why or why not? How many rays can be drawn throught two points? A line will divide the plane in how many parts? Describe them. Is it possible for two line to intersect and not be coplanar? Which pairs of angles are supplementary: 60, 35, 120, 75, 40, 30, 115, 170. What is the complement of 49? Why can't a triangle cointain two right angle?

    3. What is the measure of the missing angle? Is it possible for a triangle to be both obtuse and scalene? Will a triangle with sides 7, 24 and 25 be a right triangle? How do you know? “Every rhombus is a parallelogram”, true or false, and why? Draw a concave quadrilateral and a convex hexagon.

    4. What is the measure of each angle of a regular pentagon? What is the measure of each angle of a scalene triangle? How many diagonals will a regular polygon with 16 sides have? Is it possible for a pentagon to have the 5 sides of same length, but the internal angles are not the same? Will any three points determine a triangle? Draw a 2 by 2 square. Connect the middle points of each adjacent side. you created a new square. What is the length of each side?

    5. Are the diagrams correct? What is the measure of the missing angle? .

    6. What can you say about a triangle with sides 5, 4 and 14? Can 4 points be non-planar? If one of the sides of a Golden Rectangle is 20, approximately which values can the other side be? In Flatland, who has more status, a triangle or an hexagon? What is the distance between the point (1,4) and the point (-3, 16)? What is the slope of a line passing thought these points? .
