  2. Objectives for this evening To enable parents to help their children by • Improving understanding of school behaviour policies • Improving understanding of school procedures to support behaviour • Raising awareness of the best ways to support children

  3. Why do we set expectations for behaviour at school and home?

  4. Why do children behave well? • Developed social awareness? • Innate goodness? • Attention Seeking? • Following the example of adults and children around them? • Fit and healthy? • Or any other reason?

  5. Why do children not behave well? • Undeveloped social awareness? • Innate badness? • Seeking attention? • Following the example of adults and children around them? • Unwell or tired? • Or any other reasons

  6. It is vital that all adults work together to help children to learn to be • Kind • Tolerant • Resilient • Honest • Caring • Sharing • Happy

  7. The staff at school will • Focus on values • Provide clear rules and boundaries • Be fair • Listen • Be consistent • Communicate with you

  8. The staff need you to • Trust them • Encourage positive attitudes • Be realistic • Tell them if you are worried

  9. We will always tell you • If we know about an aggressive act that has caused an injury to your child • If we know that your child has caused an injury by an aggressive action • If we know your child has sustained an injury by accident • If your child has bumped their head • If we think your child is being bullied • If we think your child is bullying another child

We may not tell you • If your child has a minor altercation with another child but has not sustained an injury • If your child has a minor altercation with another child but does not cause an injury • If your child sustains a minor bruise or scratch by accident • If your child does not tell us they have an injury

  11. Procedures generated by the children to help them to learn boundaries • Friendship code • Playground charter • Green Code • Coming into school charter • Classroom rules

  12. Procedures to ensure consistency • Behaviour policy • Anti bullying policy • Equalities scheme • Conflict resolution strategy

  13. We ask you to trust us We don’t mean.. don’t get involved! But try to remember • The staff are very experienced • The staff are dedicated to pupil welfare • They have no desire to have unhappy children in their care

If you are worried Do • Make an appointment to see the Class Teacher • Send a note in the link book • Give the teacher time to investigate • Listen to your child if they want to talk to you • Make an appointment to see Mrs Keedy if the Class Teacher has been unable to solve the problem Don’t • Make an appointment to see Mrs Keedy if the class teacher has not had time to respond • Relay your anxiety to your child • Grill your child about their day at school
