The framework for EU SD indicators • The 6 EU SD Strategy priorities: Climate, Health, Natural resources, Transport, Poverty, Ageing society • 2 commitments from WSSD: Sustainable Production and Consumption, Good governance • External dimension (“Towards a global partnership for sustainable development” COM 2002/82) • Economic development Conferinta Nationala privind Dezvoltarea Sistemului Statistic de Mediu in Romania Tulcea, 13-14 Mai 2004

Focusing on the Göteborg strategy Indicators to be defined for the EU SD Strategy No competition with Lisbon Structural Indicators, for they answer to different needs (different time horizons/priorities) Anyway, interaction is crucial and the Lisbon priorities shall be integrated by the Göteborg strategy • A Task-Force on SD indicators was created • (12 Member States, 2 EFTA, 2 Accession Countries, • several EC DGs, OECD, UN-CSD, EEA) • Main objectives: • initial list of indicators elaborated in Mar 2004 for the review of • the EU SD Strategy in 2004 • coordination with other SD initiatives Conferinta Nationala privind Dezvoltarea Sistemului Statistic de Mediu in Romania Tulcea, 13-14 Mai 2004
